She was spring and fall
all wrapped into one
shivering in the bitter
enduring the winter
The day was over
in her dulce de leche mind
soccer mom driving
a husband conniving
One more stoplight
one more Syrah
to perform the façade
to ignore her God
In the darkest of January
or the pits of hell
her feet found their way
a voice saying stay
The traffic jam held her
in sunset time
staring
caring
Her mouth opened slightly
whispering, Damn him to hell
But the kids don’t hear
they’re nowhere near
Orange and pink
and everything inside her
reflected through the sky
mirrored the why
Cars stopped
or time did
or the beauty made her weep
the joy she couldn’t keep
or could she?
Could there be an end
a wheel turning to spring?
Can a frozen heart melt
and play the hand she’s dealt?
